Magda Ilands

Magda Ilands (born January 16, 1950 in Leuven ) is a former Belgian long-distance runner .

She was national champion in cross-country and over 10,000 m three times . On the track she set three national records: 1975 over 3000 m (9: 21.4 min) and 1980 and 1983 over 10,000 m (34: 25.3 and 33: 22.17 min).

However, she had her greatest successes in the marathon , where she set no fewer than eight national records. In 1976 she broke the three-hour mark in seventh place in Waldniel with 2:54:45 h as the first Belgian woman. In 1981 she stayed under 2:40 for the first time in Berchem with 2:37:56. In 1983 she won the pre-Olympic Seoul marathon . The following year she was third in the Nagoya , sixth in the last Avon Marathon in Paris and tenth in the Chicago Marathon . In 1985 she was sixth in Nagoya and sixth at the Frankfurt Marathon and won the Berlin Marathon in 2:34:10 h. In the following season she was third in the Los Angeles Marathon , won the Hamburg Marathon and the night of Borgholzhausen and set her eighth Belgian marathon record in Berlin with 2:33:53.

A third place in Hamburg and a fifth in Berlin in 1987 was followed by a second in Los Angeles in 1988. As eleventh of the European Cup marathon, which was held in Huy that year , she won the Belgian championship title. At the Olympic Games in Seoul she came in 35th place.
