Maria Abel

María Abel Diéguez (born October 23, 1974 in Lugo ) is a Spanish long-distance runner .

Life

In 2000 and 2003 she was Spanish cross-country champion, in 2001 in the half marathon . Over 10,000 m she finished 14th at the 1999 World Athletics Championships in Seville. At the 2000 Olympic Games , she was eliminated over the same distance in the preliminary run. At the Ibero-American Championships of the same year she won the silver medal over 5000 m .

The following year she switched to the marathon distance . At the Rotterdam Marathon 2001 she was third in 2:29:46 h, and at the World Championships in Edmonton she came in 25th place. In 2002 she won the Valencia Marathon and the Frankfurt Marathon with her personal best of 2:26:59. At the World Championships in 2003 in Paris / Saint-Denis, she finished 15th. In 2004 she finished fourth in Rotterdam and came 26th at the Olympic Games in Athens . In 2008 she finished second in the Seville Marathon .

María Abel is 1.63 meters tall, weighs 46 kg and is trained by Fernando Lozano.
