Wenelina Wenewa-Mateeva (born Wenewa, Bulgarian Венелина Венева-Матеева , English transcription Venelina Veneva-Mateeva ; born June 13, 1974 in Russe ) is a Bulgarian high jumper .

Athletic career

At the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo in 1991 , in Gothenburg in 1995 and in Seville in 1999, as well as in the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, she was eliminated from the qualification.

In 1998 she was fifth at the European Championships in Budapest and ninth at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney . The following year she won bronze at the World Indoor Championships in Lisbon and came fourth at the Edmonton World Championships . She also came fourth two years later at the 2003 World Championships in Paris / Saint-Denis.

A preliminary round at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens was followed by winning the bronze medal at the European Athletics Indoor Championships 2005 in Madrid and tenth place at the World Championships in Helsinki .

In 2006 she won silver at the European Championships in Gothenburg . During a doping control that was carried out on her on January 24, 2007, an excessive testosterone level was found. An objection by the athlete to the International Court of Justice (CAS) was not granted. She was banned for two years for violating doping regulations , and her bronze medal from the 2007 European Indoor Championships was stripped of her.

In 2009 she failed to qualify at the World Championships in Berlin . In 2011 she took part in the European Indoor Championships in Paris , where she finished seventh in the final. She also qualified for the World Championships in Daegu , South Korea , where she was eliminated with 1.89 m in qualification. In 2012 she reached the final of the European Championships in Helsinki and was twelfth there. In August she took part in her fourth Olympic Games in London and was eliminated from the qualification there. In 2014 she qualified again for the European Championships , but dropped out of the qualification there. In 2015 she took seventh place in the final of the European Indoor Championships . At the World Championships in Beijing , she did not qualify for the final again .

Her best outdoor performance is 2.04 m, achieved on June 2, 2001 in Kalamata and on August 18, 2006 in Zurich . In the hall she achieved 2.02 m on February 2, 2002 in Łódź .
