Maria grit (* 2. August 1957 as Maria Ritter ) is a former Liechtenstein athlete , focusing on the sprint and middle distance running was specialized.

biography

Maria Splitt started with her twin sister Helen in 1975 at the age of 17.5 with DTV Ruggell with the athletics. Just a year later, they both started at the European Athletics Indoor Championships in 1976 in Munich and at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montréal . In the competition over 800 m she was eliminated in the preliminary run. She set several national records over 400, 600 and 800 meters. In addition, she was multiple Swiss champion over 800 m and over the same distance in the relay. In 1981 she was elected Sportswoman of the Year in Liechtenstein.

In a car accident, she suffered a severe whiplash and an injury to the cervical spine, which is why she had to end her career early.
