Maeve Kyle

Maeve Kyle ( Maeve Esther Enid Kyle, née Shankey; born October 6, 1928 in Kilkenny ) is a former Irish - British sprinter and middle distance runner . She started at the Olympic Games and European Championships for Ireland and at the Commonwealth Games for Northern Ireland .

At the Olympic Games in Melbourne in 1956 , she was eliminated over 100 m and 200 m in the preliminary run. In 1958 she came at the British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Cardiff with the Northern Irish 4-by-110-yard relay in sixth place; over 100 yards and 220 yards she did not get past the first round. At the Olympic Games in Rome in 1960 she failed again in the first round over 100 m and 200 m.

In 1962 she was sixth over 400 m at the European Athletics Championships in Belgrade and was eliminated over 800 m in the preliminary run. At the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 1964, she reached the semi-finals over both distances.

In 1966 she won bronze over 400 m at the European Indoor Games in Dortmund . At the European Championships in Budapest she did not get past the first lap over 400 m and 800 m.

At the British Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh in 1970 , she was eighth over 400 m and seventh in the 4-by-100-meter relay .

In 1961 she became English champion over 440 yards .
