Andreas "Andy" Dittmar (born July 5, 1974 in Gotha ) is a German senior athlete .

Life

Dittmar graduated from the Arnoldischule in his hometown in 1993 . Even as a teenager, he showed his above-average talent in the shot put . In 1996 he became German Junior Champion. In the men's competition, however, he was initially unable to prevail against the strong national competition from Oliver-Sven Buder and Ralf Bartels . He made his first leap in performance in 2002 when he first hit over 20 meters. In the same year he became German runner-up and qualified for the European Championships in Munich , where he was eliminated after the qualifying round.

After failing to qualify for the 2004 Summer Olympics , Dittmar began to change training and season planning, and improved his leg technique. These measures showed success: at the beginning of 2005 he was first German indoor champion in Sindelfingen . In the open-air season he exceeded the 20-meter mark for the first time in three years and was German runner-up behind Bartels. In the 2006 season, Dittmar established himself as a constant 20-meter thrower after surviving a muscle fiber tear. In June 2006 he increased his personal best to 20.55 m at a sports festival in Schönebeck . He crowned his successful season with a fifth place at the European Championships in Gothenburg after the doping disqualifications of the Belarusian Andrej Michnewitsch and the Ukrainian Jurij Bilonoh . Dittmar also took part in the European Indoor Championships in 2000, 2002, 2005 and 2009.

Dittmar works as a specialist in a leading position at AOK Thuringia. He started for the LG Ohra Hörselgas and trained there under Stefan Schreyer . He was the initiator and co-organizer of the annual Gothaer Castle Meeting, held from 1997 to 2017, one of the most important shot put competitions in Germany at the time.
