Vyacheslav Ivanovich Ivanenko

Vyacheslav Ivanovich Ivanenko ( Russian Вячеслав Иванович Иваненко, born March 3, 1961 in Kemerovo ) is a former Soviet or Russian athlete and Olympic champion . With a height of 1.64 m, his competition weight was 56 kg.

Vyacheslav Ivanenko was one of the best walkers in the world over the 50-kilometer distance in the 1980s.

At the 1986 European Championships in Stuttgart, he won silver in 3:41:54 hours, 59 seconds behind Hartwig Gauder from the GDR and half a minute ahead of his teammate Valeri Sunzow . In 1987 at the World Championships in Rome in the heat, the gaps were significantly larger. Hartwig Gauder won again, this time in 3:40:53 h from Ronald Weigel , also from the GDR, in 3:41:30 h Iwanenko won bronze in 3:44:02 with three and a half minutes behind fourth place.

At the Olympic Games in Seoul in 1988 , the same walkers stood on the podium as in Rome, only the order had reversed. Vyacheslav Ivanenko won with the second fastest time of 3:38:29 h, ahead of Ronald Weigel in 3:38:56 h and Hartwig Gauder in 3:39:45 h.
