Bogusław Mamiński (born December 18, 1955 in Kamień Pomorski ) is a former Polish athlete who was particularly successful in the obstacle course .

Career

At the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow, two Poles reached the final in the 3000 meter obstacle course; Bronisław Malinowski won gold, Mamiński took seventh place in 8: 19.5 minutes. The following year, Mamiński competed as a representative of Europe at the World Cup in Athletics . As the winner of the obstacle course, he contributed to the fact that the European men's selection won the World Cup.

In the final of the European Championships in 1982 Mamiński was defeated in the final sprint to the West German Patriz Ilg . At the award ceremony, Ilg zu Mamiński placed himself on the second step of the podium, the step intended for the European champion remained free in honor of Malinowski, who died in an accident in autumn 1981. A year later, in the final of the first World Athletics Championships , a group of three had pulled away from the field on the last lap. The US-American Henry Marsh led after the last moat in front of Ilg and Mamiński, but fell on the last obstacle and only came in eighth. Ilg, who ran to Marsh, won the title safely because Mamiński had to avoid the falling Marsh. Mamiński won silver in front of the British Colin Reitz and the French Joseph Mahmoud .

1984 was marked by the Olympic boycott for all athletes in the Eastern Bloc . 14 days after the Olympic final, the Van Damme Memorial in Brussels was a very fast race. Joseph Mahmoud set a new European record in 8: 07.62 minutes, followed by Mamiński in 8: 09.18 minutes, the second fastest time of the year and his personal best. In the following years Mamiński was unable to match his great form of the early 1980s, his best placement was eighth at the 1988 Olympic Games in 8: 15.97 minutes.

Mamiński was the Polish obstacle course champion in 1979, 1985, 1992 and 1993, and in 1983 and 1987 he won the Polish title in the 5000-meter run . He is 1.80 m tall and his competition weight was 68 kg.
