Matthias Assmann (born February 2, 1957 in Hanover ) is a former German athlete who was successful in the 800 meter run .
He was German champion over 800 meters in 1985 and 1986 . He also won the championship title five times in a row with the 4-by-800-meter relay of VfB Stuttgart from 1982 to 1986 . Assmann took part in the European Championships in 1982 , the World Championships in 1983 and the European Championships in 1986 , where he was eliminated in the intermediate run. In 1998 he became Senior European Champion in the M40 class. Assmann set his personal best with 1: 44.59 min in 1986 in Koblenz.
