Béla Bakosi

Béla Bakosi (born June 18, 1957 in Kemecse , Szabolcs County ) is a former Hungarian triple jumper . In 1982 he was third at the European Championships.

Career

In 1979 at the European Indoor Championships in Vienna Bakosi finished fifth with 16.30 m. In the open air season he won his first of eight Hungarian championship titles in the triple jump and his only Hungarian championship title in the long jump. In 1980 Bakosi won the European Indoor Championships in Sindelfingen with 16.86 m and 35 centimeters ahead of second-placed Jaak Uudmäe from the Soviet Union. At the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow , three athletes jumped more than 17 meters, Jaak Uudmäe won gold with 17.35 m; Béla Bakosi also reached the Olympic final and finished seventh with 16.47 m.

In 1982 Bakosi won his second title at the European Indoor Championships in Milan with 17.13 m. At the European Championships in Athens , as in Moscow in 1980, three athletes jumped the 17-meter mark, behind the British Keith Connor and Vasily Grishchenkov from the Soviet Union, Bakosi received the bronze medal for 17.04 m. Bakosi also won bronze at the European Indoor Championships in Budapest in 1983 , with 16.90 m he was behind the Soviet jumpers Mykola Mussijenko and Gennady Valyukevich . At the 1983 World Championships in Helsinki , Bakosi finished seventh with 16.83 m.

At the European Indoor Championships in Gothenburg in 1984 Bakosi jumped 17.15 m and again received the bronze medal. In the 1985 outdoor season he won his sixth Hungarian triple jump championship title in Budapest; its width of 17.23 m remained the Hungarian record until 1998, when Zsolt Czingler jumped one centimeter further. In 1986 he won his third bronze medal at the European Indoor Championships in Madrid with 16.93 m. At the European Championships in Stuttgart in the summer, Bakosi qualified for the final with a wind-assisted 16.83 m, but there he only managed 16.09 m and twelfth place. At the European Indoor Championships in 1988 in front of a home crowd in Budapest, Bakosi jumped 17.25 m, two centimeters further than his Hungarian outdoor record, with this distance he won silver behind Oleg Sakirkin from the Soviet Union; it was Bakosi's sixth and final medal at the European Indoor Championships.

Béla Bakosi 1.80 m tall and weighed 67 kg during his active time.
