Hermann Strauss (athlete)

Hermann Strauss (born March 16, 1931 ; † April 1, 2011 ) was a German athlete .

Career

Strauss came from Kitzingen and competed in the triple jump and long jump . In May 1957 he played the first of 23 international matches of his career in Madrid. In 1958 he jumped the German triple jump record with 15.59 m and was seventh at the European Championships in Stockholm that same year . In 1960 Strauss was qualified for the Olympic Games in Rome in the triple jump, but had to forego a start due to a recently sustained injury. He later won several senior world and European championships.
