Eusomus ovulum is a beetle from the family of the weevils (Curculionidae).
features
The beetles are 5–7.5 mm long. The black beetles have densely green scales. The pronotum has the greatest width behind the middle. The elongated oval elytra are pointed at the rear end. The beetles' relatively large eyes are strongly arched. The weevils have very long antennae . The straight antenna shaft is colored red with the exception of the tip. The femora have long sharp thorns.
distribution
The beetle species is common in the Palearctic . In Europe it occurs in France, England and Italy as well as in Central Europe and the Balkans . To the east the distribution area extends to Asia Minor and Western Siberia . In Germany, the northern limit of distribution runs through Westphalia, Lower Saxony and Brandenburg.
Way of life
The beetle species reproduces parthenogenetically . The adult beetles appear from mid-April and can be observed until the beginning of August. The beetles are particularly found on sunny slopes.
