Elena Stoyanova

Elena Stojanowa ( Bulgarian Елена Стоянова , English transcription Elena Stoyanova; born January 23, 1952 in Krassen , Dobrich Oblast ) is a former Bulgarian shot putter .

In 1972 she was twelfth at the European Athletics Indoor Championships in Grenoble and eighth at the Olympic Games in Munich .

The following year she was fifth at the Indoor European Championships in 1973 in Rotterdam and won silver at the Universiade . In 1974 she was sixth at the European Indoor Championships in Gothenburg and seventh at the European Athletics Championships in Rome . In 1975 a sixth place at the European Indoor Championships in Katowice was followed by a victory at the Universiade.

In 1976 she was fourth at the European Indoor Championships in Munich and eighth at the Olympic Games in Montreal . At the Universiade in 1977 she defended her title.

In 1978 she was fourth at the European Indoor Championships in Milan . Because of a doping offense , she was stripped of fifth place at the European Championships in Prague , and she was banned for 18 months.

At the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow she came in sixth and at the European Championships in 1982 in Athens on fourth place.

She was Bulgarian champion twice (1976, 1977) and Bulgarian indoor champion four times (1975–1978). In 1976 she became Italian indoor champion.
