Harri Hänninen
Harri Johannes Hänninen (born October 18, 1963 in Helsinki ) is a former Finnish long-distance runner who specialized in the marathon in the 1990s .
The late starter Hänninen started for the first time at the age of 26 at the European Athletics Championships. In the title fights in 1990 in Split he was eighth over 5000 meters with a personal best and 19th over the 10,000 meters. In the same year he finished the Berlin Marathon in fifth.
The following year he finally switched to the marathon: With a time of 2:15:19 hours, Hänninen finished eleventh at the Olympic Games in Barcelona, less than two minutes behind the Korean Hwang Young-cho . At the Berlin Marathon 1992 he was able to achieve fourth place. In 1993 he came third in the Rotterdam Marathon . At the World Championships in Stuttgart he also started, but with a weak time he was only 30. He finished the marathon at the home European Championships in Helsinki with the victory of the Spaniard Martín Fiz in eighth place. His time here was 2:13:21 hours.
Häkkinen ran in the following years, among other things, at the 1995 World Cup in Gothenburg (30th place) and at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta (32nd place) but could no longer connect to the top of the world. The 1998 European Championships in Budapest was his last major competition. He finished 14th here with 2:15:13 hours.
During the competition, Hänninen weighed 61 kilograms and was 1.78 meters tall.
