Evgeni Ignatov

Evgeni Ignatow ( Bulgarian Евгени Игнатов , English transcription Evgeni Ignatov ; born June 25, 1959 in Nikolowo , Russe Oblast ) is a former Bulgarian long-distance runner .

In 1981 he won silver at the European Indoor Athletics Championships in Grenoble over 3000 m (real length 2820 m). He was fourth in each case over 5000 m at the European Athletics Championships in Athens in 1982 and in Stuttgart in 1986 .

Over the same distance, he was sixth at the World Athletics Championships in Rome the following year . At the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul he was eighth over 5000 m and twelfth over 10,000 m . At the European Championships in 1990 in Split and at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona, ​​he was eliminated over 5000 m in the preliminary run.

Overall, he was three times Bulgarian champion over 1500 m (1982, 1986, 1987), nine times over 5000 m (1980, 1982, 1985–1991), five times over 10,000 m (1987–1989, 1991, 1992) and once in cross country (1988 ). In 1981 he won the national 1500 m title in the hall.
