Vyacheslav Nikolayevich Lycho

Vyacheslav Nikolajewitsch Lycho ( Russian Вячеслав Николаевич Лыхо , English transcription Vyacheslav Lykho ; born January 16, 1967 in Michnewo , Moscow Oblast ) is a former Russian shot putter .

In 1987, starting for the Soviet Union , he was ninth at the World Athletics Championships in Rome . At the European Athletics Championships in 1990 in Split, he took third place, but was tested positive for methamphetamine ( crystal meth ) during the doping control , disqualified and banned for three months.

He celebrated his greatest success starting for the United Team at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona: behind the Americans Mike Stulce and Jim Doehring , from whom he was only two centimeters apart, he won bronze. For the first time in an Olympic competition, all three medals went to athletes who had previously been convicted of doping : Stulce and Doehring were each banned from 1990 to 1992 because of the use of testosterone .

He started for Russia at the 1997 World Cup in Athens, but was eliminated in qualifying.

In 1988 he became Soviet champion indoors and in 1990 outdoors. He won Russian championship titles outdoors in 1992 and 1997 and indoors in 1996.

Vyacheslav Lycho is 1.96 m tall and weighed 120 kg at competition times. He started for Dynamo Moscow.
