Jim Doehring

Jim Doehring (actually: James F. Doehring ; born June 27, 1962 in Santa Barbara , California ) is a former American shot putter .

At the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul, he was eleventh.

In December 1990 he was tested positive for testosterone in a doping control . The two-year ban imposed on him was lifted in March 1992 due to a procedural error. Three months later, he qualified second in the US eliminations for the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona.

In Barcelona he won the silver medal behind his compatriot Mike Stulce and in front of the Russian Vyacheslav Lycho , who started for the United Team . For the first time in an Olympic competition, all three medals went to athletes who had previously been convicted of doping : Stulce was banned from 1990 to 1992 after he was found to have synthetic testosterone, Lycho was disqualified at the 1990 European Championships for using the substance methamphetamine ( crystal meth ) and blocked for three months.

In 1993 Doehring won silver at the World Indoor Athletics Championships in Toronto . In 1990 he became national champion outdoors and in 1993 indoors.

Jim Doehring is 1.83 m tall and weighed 120 kg at competition times. At the age of 18 he suffered a serious motorcycle accident, but after a year he was able to continue his sporting career and study at San José State University on a scholarship . As early as 1989 he admitted the use of anabolic steroids to journalists . In early 1992 he was sentenced to 125 hours of social work and participation in an open prison drug rehab program for trafficking in amphetamines .
