Ihar Astapkovich ( Belarusian Ігар Астапковіч , English transcription Ihar Astapkovich, also Russian Игорь Астапкович - Igor Astapkowitsch - Igor Astapkovich ; born January 4, 1963 in Minsk ) is a former Belarusian hammer thrower .

Astapkowitsch won his only major international title, still starting for the Soviet Union , at the European Athletics Championships in 1990 in Split. At the three following world championships he took second place, also at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona he won the silver medal. In his last Olympic appearance at the 2000 Games in Sydney, he took third place.

The personal best of Astapkowitsch is 84.62 m, established in Seville in 1992 , he had a competition weight of 118 kg with a height of 1.92 m.

Astapkowitsch is married to the discus thrower Iryna Jattschanka . Today he works as a sports teacher.
