Anatoly Bondarchuk
Anatoliy Bondarchuk ( Ukrainian Анатолій Бондарчук , Eng. Transcription Anatoliy Bondarchuk, Russian Анатолий Павлович Бондарчук , Anatoly Pavlovich Bondarchuk ; * 31 May 1940 in Starokostiantyniv ) is a former Ukrainian hammer thrower , who for the Soviet Union Olympic champion was.
The first major international success for Bondarchuk was winning the gold medal at the European Athletics Championships in 1969 ; With his winning distance he exceeded his own world record , which lasted until 1971. He could not defend his title two years later; he came third at the European Athletics Championships in 1971 .
In the following year Bondarchuk was able to achieve the greatest success of his career: He won the gold medal at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich. At the 1976 Games in Montreal, he placed third behind his student Jurij Sedych , who became Olympic champion.
His personal best from 1976 is 77.42 m. After his active career, Bondarchuk worked as a hammer throw trainer for the Soviet Union, Portugal and Kuwait .
