Matt McGrath
Matt McGrath (actually Matthew John McGrath ; born December 18, 1878 in Nenagh , County Tipperary , † January 29, 1941 in New York ) was an American hammer thrower and Olympic champion .
In 1912 he won the Olympic Games in Stockholm with a width of 54.74 meters. He was so superior that his shortest throw was almost four meters further than the distance of second-placed Duncan Gillis from Canada. Like John Flanagan , hammer throwing winner of the 1900, 1904, and 1908 Olympics, McGrath was a police officer and immigrant from Ireland .
