Marieta Ilcu

Marieta Ilcu (born October 16, 1962 in Darabani , People's Republic of Romania ) is a former Romanian athlete who specializes in the long jump .

Life

She celebrated her first success in her long jump career in 1987 when she won the long jump competition of the 14th Universiade in Zagreb with a width of 6.81 m. At the World Indoor Athletics Championships in 1989 in Budapest , she finished second with 6.86 m behind Galina Tschistjakowa from the Soviet Union. In the same year Marieta Ilcu achieved her personal best in the long jump with 7.08 m.

Another silver medal won Ilcu at the European Athletics Championships in 1990 in Split . Her best distance here was 7.02 m. She was only subject to the German Heike Drechsler . 1991 Ilcu started at the World Indoor Championships , which were held in Seville . With 6.74 m she took 3rd place behind Laryssa Bereschna from the Soviet Union and Heike Drechsler. Another final reached Marieta Ilcu at the World Athletics Championships in 1991 in Tokyo . Her best length of 6.72 m was enough for 6th place.

In the following year, Ilcu was defeated by the Bereschna, who started for the CIS, at the European Athletics Indoor Championships in 1992 in Genoa . Her best length here was 6.74 m. Ilcu also competed at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona . However, she failed because of the qualification distance of 6.75 m and was eliminated with 6.46 m. She was able to record one last success at the IAAF World Indoor Championships in 1993 in Toronto . She won the world title with a width of 6.84 m ahead of the German Susen Tiedtke and the Russian Inessa Krawez .
