Steven Levy

Steven Levy (born January 26, 1951 in Philadelphia ) is an American journalist and author. He is a technology writer, columnist, and senior editor for Newsweek news magazine .

Life

Levy studied literature at Pennsylvania State University and then worked as a journalist .

He set out in 1978 on the way to the brain of Albert Einstein to find. He found what he was looking for in Wichita , where he came across the former pathologist Thomas Harvey . He had illegally stolen the organ in 1955 during the autopsy to determine the cause of death.

Levy published the book Hackers: Heroes of the Computer Revolution in 1984 , a book about the hacker culture, in which a consistent hacker ethic was formulated for the first time . Similar to Hackers , his 2001 book Crypto is based on numerous interviews. Here he describes the history of cryptography in the age of computers. In his reports, he often describes developments at tech companies. His latest book, Facebook. The Inside Story deals with the z. B. with the influence of Facebook with its more than 3 billion worldwide users on Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram .

Levy has u. a. Received the Computer Press Association Award for his 1998 publications on the Year 2000 problem .

He is married to Pulitzer Prize- winning writer Teresa Carpenter and lives in New York City .
