Lars Arvid Nilsen (born April 15, 1965 in Notodden ) is a former Norwegian shot putter .

At the European Championships in 1986 and at the World Indoor Athletics Championships in 1987 , he was fifth. In 1987 he was banned from probenecid and anabolic steroids for two years.

A sixth place at the 1990 European Championships in Split was followed by a fifth place at the World Indoor Championships in Seville in 1991 . In the summer he finished third at the World Championships in Tokyo , but then moved up to silver after the runner-up, his compatriot Georg Andersen , was disqualified for doping .

The following year, Nilsen tested positive for anabolic steroids again during a doping control . He was then banned for life as a repeat offender.

In 1989 and 1991 he was Norwegian champion.
