The four-man European Championship took place on January 28 and 29, 1989, with runs 1 and 2 on January 28 and runs 3 and 4 on January 29. A total of 29 teams started. While the victory of Austrian Ingo Appelt, World Cup winner of the season 87/88, did not come out of the blue, the silver medal of newcomer Harald Czudaj was a big surprise.
