Paul Gerhardt Scheurlen

Paul Gerhardt Scheurlen (born September 1, 1923 in Biberach an der Riss ; † February 12, 2015 in Graefelfing ) was a German internist and professor at the Saarland University in Homburg .

Life

After studying medicine and completing his doctorate, Scheurlen received his habilitation in Tübingen in 1961. From 1964 he worked at the University Clinic in Cologne and in 1969 was appointed full professor and scientific adviser at the University Clinic. In 1970 he was appointed full professor of internal medicine (I) at the Saarland University Hospital in Homburg. Here, together with his colleague Friedrich Trendelenburg, he set up the Saarland cancer center in Homburg. In 1975/76 Scheurlen became medical director of the university hospital.

In 1980 he was President of the Congress of the German Society for Hematology and Medical Oncology in Homburg, two years later President of the 26th Saarland-Palatinate Congress of Internal Medicine. In 1989 he retired.

Scheurlen had been married to the doctor and Saarland politician Rosemarie Scheurlen since 1953 .
