Detlef Richter (born June 6, 1956 in Leipzig ) is a former German bobsleigh driver . His hometown club was the ASK Vorwärts Oberhof .
He started for the team of the German Democratic Republic (GDR) in 1980 and 1988 at the Winter Olympics and won the bronze medal in the four-man bobsleigh together with Horst Schönau , Roland Wetzig and Andreas Kirchner at the 1980 Games in Lake Placid .
Together with Steffen Grummt , he won a silver medal in the two-man bobsleigh at the 1985 Bobsleigh World Championship in Cervinia and a bronze medal at the 1986 World Bobsleigh Championship in Königssee . In the four-man bobsleigh he was at the bobsleigh world championship in 1979 in Königssee in the sled of helmsman Meinhard Nehmer and at the bobsleigh world championship 1985 as helmsman each time vice world champion and at the bobsleigh world championship 1983 in Lake Placid third as helmsman.
At the European Championships he came second in Igls in 1984 and third in the two-man bobsleigh in Igls in 1986 and second place in the four-man bobsleigh in Igls in 1981, in Cortina d'Ampezzo in 1982 and in Igls in 1984.
For winning the silver medal at the 1985 World Championships in the four-man bobsleigh ( Bodo Ferl , Dietmar Jerke, Mathias Legler, Detlef Richter) he was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in silver.
