Wolfgang Stampfer (born May 3, 1972 in Innsbruck ) is an Austrian bobsleigh pilot .

Career

Wolfgang Stampfer from BC Amras / Innsbruck , previously from BC Franziskaner Wattens , has been involved in bobsleigh since 1992. The married father of two children is a sports soldier and twenty times Austrian champion, eight times in the two-man and twelve times in the four-man bobsleigh. His pushers were and still are Jürgen Mayer , Klaus Seelos , Andreas Pröller , Johannes Wipplinger , Hans-Peter Welz , Jürgen Loacker , Gerhard Köhler , Sandro Burgstaller and Martin Lachkovics . Since the 1998/99 season he has been one of the world's top bobsledders in both bobsleigh classes.

The best placings in the World Cup were third places: 1999 in Winterberg and 2001 in Altenberg in a four-man and 2007 in Cesana in a two-man bobsleigh. The greatest success was winning the bronze medal in the four-man bobsleigh at the 1999 European Championships in Winterberg. In 2004 in St. Moritz and 2005 in Altenberg he missed another medal in fourth place, as well as in 2004 in two in St. Moritz. He achieved best placings at world championships in 2003 in Lake Placid and in 2007 in St. Moritz in sixth place, both in the two-man bobsleigh. The Austrian competed several times at the Olympic Games. 2002 he won in Salt Lake City to seventh place in the two and the 13th place in the quad, 2006 in Turin was Stampfer tenth in twos and again 13th in four-man. At the beginning of June 2019, Stampfer became the Austrian national bobsleigh coach.
