Sascha Schelter

Sascha Schelter (born January 13, 1985 in Potsdam ) is a former German bobsleigh driver who competed for the BRC Riesa .

The police officer trained by Heinz Rieger (SC Potsdam) has been involved in bobsleigh since 2003. Sascha Schelter was a sports management student at the University of Potsdam and started for the BRC Riesa . He was part of Thomas Florschütz's bobsleigh team . At the Junior World Championships in 2006 he won the silver medal in the four-man bobsleigh run by Christoph Gaisreiter . He achieved the same placement in the same year at the German Junior Championship. In 2006 he won the European Cup in Cortina d'Ampezzo in two-man and four-man bobsleigh, as well as in Altenberg in two and in Winterberg in four. In addition, he and his team were overall European Cup winners in both classes in the 2005/2006 season. At the German Championships in Altenberg in 2008 he was the second time champion in the big sled after 2007 (Königsee). Shortly before the 2008 World Championships in Altenberg, Schelter injured himself so badly during sprint training in Potsdam that he subsequently had to undergo an operation and then declared his career over.

Before Schelter switched to bobsleigh, he was a successful karateka in the karate direction "Kimura Shukokai Karate", in which he won various German championship titles in the disciplines Kata, Teamkata and Kumite from 1994 to 2000 in the age groups 10 to 15 years. From 1999 Schelter began training as a track and field athlete, where he became German runner-up in the 14th age group (schoolchildren) in the “Litter” block competition that same year. In the following year, Schelter secured the championship title in the same discipline with the German student record of 3254 points at the time.
