The list of Luge World Cup winners consists of two parts. The first part gives an overview of the winners and the second and third placed athletes of the luge seasons. This overview is then evaluated using several statistics. The second part of the list shows in chronological order all the World Cup winners of the women and men singles as well as the doubles competitions. The second part of the list is also evaluated using several statistics. Many of the lists and statistics are sortable.

Remarks

The Luge World Cup , hosted by the Fédération Internationale de Luge de Course (FIL), has been held since the 1977/78 season and will therefore take place for the 41st time in the 2018/2019 season . The competitions are dominated by Germany , Italy and Austria , which are in the top three places in all statistics. They represent the largest number of World Cup race winners as well as overall World Cup rankings. Other nations such as the USA , Canada or the former Soviet Union and a few of their successor states ( Russia , Latvia , Ukraine ) are trying to keep up or to make connections, but apart from Russia, they have so far only achieved respectable successes. Such successes are more likely to be seen in individual races at the Olympic Winter Games , World and European Championships . Other nations that were successful before the introduction of the World Cup, such as Poland , Norway , Switzerland or Czechoslovakia (now represented by the successor states of the Czech Republic and Slovakia ), have lost touch with the absolute world elite. The successes of smaller luge nations, such as Liechtenstein or Sweden , are often due to the individual skills of individual athletes rather than a luge tradition. Although the traditional nations continue to set the tone in this sport, the base of the sport is being placed on the shoulders of more and more nations.

The German dominance is particularly noticeable among women, where not only the greater part of the overall ratings was won by German starters, but also 173 of the 221 races by female tobogganers from Germany (including the GDR and the FRG up to 1990) were decided by German drivers . With 20 individual winners, the German women were able to provide by far more winners than any other nation. Far behind are the Soviet women, who provided five winners. The overall ranking of the two-seater is less clear, where Germany and Italy were still roughly on a par in the early 2010s. But German doubles won more than twice as many World Cup races. In the men's category, Italians were able to win more races than German starters up until the beginning of the 2010s, after which the ratio changed in favor of Germany , mainly thanks to the successes of Felix Loch . In the overall standings, the Austrians are as successful as the Germans despite significantly fewer individual races won. It can be seen that in the history of the competition Germany was able to bring a particularly large number of athletes to the top of the world, but in many cases Italy and Austria are equal due to the individual class of individual starters. The German tobogganers benefit not least from the four toboggan runs on German soil, from the technical support and the well-trained trainers, who were often tobogganers themselves before. Behind the top three nations are the USA and Russia, including the former Soviet Union, by a long way. The US tobogganers were seldom able to establish themselves as long-term competitors despite always having a large individual class and also two toboggan runs. Towards the mid-2010s, the best American women achieved greater consistency. In the Soviet Union a lot was invested in the development of sport in the 1980s, after the collapse of the country this development work was in parts brought to a standstill. Recently, however, a strengthening of Russian, Latvian and, to a greater extent, Ukrainian athletes has also become apparent. In particular, the construction of two toboggan runs brought a large number of Russian tobogganers in all three classes to the top of the world. In Estonia, tobogganing is one of the national sports. In addition, the nations in which the future Olympic Winter Games will be held are also continually making selective and temporary progress. Before the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver there was a positive development for Canada, 2014 in Russia and 2018 at least briefly in South Korea .

The list consists of two sub-lists. In the list of the overall world cup winners in luge the statistics for the overall world cup are listed, in the list of the winners of the luge world cup races the winners of the world cup races and statistical evaluations are given.
