Orthopedic knee chair

The orthopedic knee chair, sometimes also called a computer chair or health chair, is an upholstered piece of furniture that is constructed similar to a swivel chair . The difference is that there is no backrest, but only a seat and a support surface for the lower leg and knee , which is located under the seat. So you practically “kneel” on the chair .

The first orthopedic knee chairs were offered under the name Balans in the mid-1980s.

The kneeling posture assumes a naturally healthy back position , which relieves the spine , increases performance (as the blood supply increases and the diaphragm is freed) and strengthens the back muscles .

Since it is generally not beneficial for the human body to remain in a certain position for a long time, it is advisable to change the sitting position more often, for example by alternating between different seating furniture.

Garden knee chair

Combined sitting and knee chairs for gardening are also sold under the name knee chair, knee stool, garden stool or plant stool. These stools make kneeling garden work easier and can be turned upside down as a seat.

Osteoarthritis or a hip or knee prosthesis can make kneeling gardening particularly difficult. The upholstery of the garden knee chair makes kneeling work more pleasant and the handles on the side make it easier to get up.

Saddle seat

When hiking in the water, saddle seats - in conjunction with a knee mat - can be used in canoes (paddle boats). They relieve the spine and increase comfort.
Open-cell PU foam is used as the material for the knee mat.

Due to the kneeling position and the use of a knee mat, this form of saddle seat is also colloquially called "knee chair".
