The 51st Luge World Championships are to be held in January or February 2023 on the luge track in Oberhof , Germany.

The intercontinental title fights organized by the Fédération Internationale de Luge de Course take place for the fourth time on the Thuringian track after 1973 , 1985 and the Luge World Championships in 2008 . Competitions are planned in the single-seaters for men and women, the doubles, the discipline of the team relay and in the sprint of the singles for men, women and doubles. Apart from the team relay and the sprint competitions, two decision runs are planned for each race.

Oberhof had in common with the Canadian Calgary to host the 50th Luge World Championships advertised in 2021, but was 65 years Congress of the World Federation FIL in the Romanian Constanta inferior (in June 2017).

In autumn 2018, Oberhof was awarded the bid for the Biathlon World Championships 2023 and subsequently announced the renewed application for the Luge World Championships. At the 67th annual congress of the world association Fédération Internationale de Luge de Course in Ljubljana , Oberhof, the only application to host the world championships, was unanimously accepted as the host. A comprehensive modernization of the railway is to take place in preparation for the world championships, and the construction of a second railway road is under discussion.
