Free Word is a regional daily newspaper in southern Thuringia . It appears in the independent city of Suhl , in the districts of Hildburghausen and Sonneberg and in parts of the districts of Schmalkalden-Meiningen , Ilm-Kreis and Wartburgkreis . Their circulation , including the Meininger Tageblatt, is 55,684 copies, a decrease of 51.4 percent since 1998. The publisher is Suhler Verlagsgesellschaft mbH & Co. KG, based in Suhl.

Founded Free Word as an organ of the SED -Bezirksleitung the East German district Suhl . The newspaper was created on August 15, 1952 with the establishment of the districts in the GDR as The Free Word and was renamed Free Word on March 9, 1956 . With a circulation of 157,400 copies, Freie Wort was the smallest SED district newspaper with eight local editorial offices at the time.

When it was privatized after reunification , Freie Wort was taken over in 1991 by Süddeutscher Verlag in Munich (70 percent) and the SPD media holding Deutsche Druck- und Verlagsgesellschaft mbh (ddvg) in Hamburg (30 percent).

Walter Hörmann is the editor-in-chief, Markus Ermert is the deputy.

In the past few years, Freie Wort - like most regional newspapers - has lost a lot of its circulation . The circulation sold has decreased by an average of 3.7% per year over the past 10 years. Last year it decreased by 4.3%. It is currently 55,684 copies. The share of subscriptions in the circulation sold is 92.8 percent.

The editorial team of the independent Meininger Tageblatt publishes the local edition for the city and old district of Meiningen (see cooperations) in addition to the common cover pages .

Cooperations

Together with the titles Neue Presse (Coburg) , Südthüringer Zeitung ( Bad Salzungen ) and Frankenpost ( Hof ), which belong to the same owners, Free Word forms the "Regional newspaper group Hof / Coburg / Suhl" of the Süddeutscher Verlag , which belongs to the Südwestdeutsche Medienholding GmbH ( SWMH ) heard in Stuttgart . For the supraregional coat, Freie Wort is collaborating editorially with the Stuttgarter Nachrichten .

Free Word also cooperates with Meininger Mediengesellschaft mbH (MMG), which publishes the daily Meininger Tageblatt . In Meininger Mediengesellschaft mbH, Suhler Verlagsgesellschaft mbH & Co.KG and WPV Gesellschaft für Werbung, Presse und Vertrieb mbH in Meiningen held 50 percent each ; the latter is a full subsidiary of KVG Kissinger Verlagsgesellschaft mbH & Co. KG ( Saale Newspaper ). In 2010 the Upper Franconian media group took over the share from the UPU.

Meininger Tageblatt and Südthüringer Zeitung take over the entire cover section of Freie Wort.
