The Südthüringer Zeitung (stz) is a regional daily newspaper that appears on weekdays in Bad Salzungen for parts of the districts of Wartburgkreis and Schmalkalden-Meiningen in Thuringia . The sold circulation is 11,098 copies, a decrease of 52.9 percent since 1998.

history

The regional newspaper first appeared on March 8, 1990 in the then districts of Bad Salzungen , Schmalkalden , Eisenach and Meiningen as a project of the Fuldaer Zeitung . The editorial office was located in the skyscraper of the publicly owned estate (VEG) Gartenbau Barchfeld . The Fuldaer Zeitung later sold it to the Süddeutscher Verlag ; the takeover of the larger partner Free Word failed.

The publisher is Suhler Verlagsgesellschaft mbH & Co. KG. Editor-in-chief from 1993 to 2009 was Berthold Dücker , until January 2012 Herbert Wessels, currently Walter Hörmann.

The Südthüringer Zeitung appears today in the old districts of Bad Salzungen and Schmalkalden. It cooperates with the newspaper Freie Wort, which appears in the same area . Today the editorial office and the publishing house are located in the Salzunger Medienzentrum in Bad Salzungen.
