Maija Tīruma-Eichhorn (born November 28, 1983 in Riga , Latvian SSR , Soviet Union , born Maija Tīruma ) is a former Latvian luge athlete .

Maija Tīruma lives in Ragana . She has been tobogganing since 1998, since 2000 as part of the Latvian national team. She has been competing regularly in the Luge World Cup since the 2004/05 season . She reached her first top ten placement in December 2006 in Calgary . In the same place she achieved her best World Cup result as the winner of the team competition with the Latvian team, which also included Andris Šics , Juris Šics and Mārtiņš Rubenis , during the same World Cup.

So far Tīruma started at three Olympic Games . In 2002 she was 18th in Salt Lake City , in 2006 she was one place better in Turin . In 2010 in Vancouver she finished 9th. At the Luge World Championships 2007 in Igls , Tiruma was also 17th and sixth with the team. The Latvian achieved her best individual result at a major event in ninth place at the 2006 European Championships in Winterberg . With the team she surprisingly won the gold medal at the European Luge Championships in 2008 in Cesana .

Her younger sister Elīza is also active as a luge. On July 7, 2018, she married the German toboggan trainer and former luge rider Jan Eichhorn .
