Nikita Demidov ( Russian Никита Демидов , originally Nikita Demidowitsch Antufjew even ANTYUFEYEV, Никита Демидович Антуфьев, Антюфеев * 5. April 1656 in Tula ; † 28. November 1725 in Tula) was a Russian industrialist and the founder of the successful industrialist family of Demidows .

Originally the son of the farmer and later blacksmith Demid Klementjewitsch Antufjew was also a hammer smith in Tula in central Russia . In 1699 the Russian government had the first iron foundry in the Urals built under his leadership in Newjansk near Yekaterinburg , which Antufyev managed with so much skill that Emperor Peter the Great ennobled him under the surname Demidow and gave him the entire iron foundry in 1702. During the Great Northern War against Sweden, he supplied cannons and rifles to the Russian troops .

In 1722 Nikita Deminow began building an iron-reinforced tower in Nevjansk , which, however, tilted due to the unsuitable building site. He gave up the building project, which only his son took up and completed. By chance, miners sent by Demidow discovered the gold, silver and other ore deposits in Siberia in 1725 in the area around Kolywan ( Gornaja Kolywan , Berg-Kolywan ), the exploitation of which established the extraordinary wealth of his family.

The Demidow empire reached its peak under his son Akinfi .
