William Burrell

Sir William Burrell (born July 9, 1861 in Glasgow , † March 29, 1958 in Hutton Castle ) was a shipowner from Glasgow.

He was a very successful entrepreneur and passionate art collector . On June 22, 1927, he was knighted as a Knight Bachelor . In 1944 he donated his collection and £ 250,000 to the City of Glasgow on condition that the collection be exhibited outside the city center. Since 1983 the Burrell Collection can be visited in Pollock Country Park in Glasgow.
