Harald Kimmig (born October 9, 1956 in Offenburg ) is a German violinist of free improvisation music and composer.

Kimmig had violin lessons from 1966 to 1974 and then studied philosophy , sociology and art history from 1975 to 1982 . He took lessons from Leszek Zadlo , Muneer Abdul Fataah, John Tchicai and Cecil Taylor . From 1984 he was active as a professional musician, initially with solo concerts and as a member of the First Improvising String Orchestra . He played in a trio with Georg Wolf and Lukas Lindenmaier (CD rif-rif 1990) and is co-leader of the F-Orkestra , which worked with musicians such as Buddy Collette and Peter Kowald . He also played in the ensemble of Cecil Taylor (CDs "Legba Crossing", "Corona"), but also in projects by John Tchicai, Wladimir Tschekassin and with Doug Hammond , Lee Konitz , Tony Oxley , Gabriele Hasler , Sirone and Jürgen Wuchner . He works in a trio with Carl Ludwig Hübsch and Lê Quan Ninh . He is also a member of the ensembles of Angelika Sheridan , Géraldine Keller and Hideto Heshiki. Together with Norbert Rodenkirchen , he composed the Aura Christinae in 2004 , which has been performed repeatedly in Stommeln (with Maria Jonas and Albrecht Maurer, among others ). Kimmig also writes string quartets and larger orchestral works ('Der Lauf des Lichtes und der Dunkelheit' oratorio, 1999) as well as film scores .
