Norbert Rodenkirchen
Norbert Rodenkirchen (* 1962 in Cologne ) is a German flautist and composer who is active in both medieval and new improvisational music.
Live and act
Rodenkirchen studied flute and baroque transverse flute with Hans-Martin Müller and Günther Hoeller at the Cologne University of Music . He has been a member of the Sequentia ensemble since 1996 , as well as the French Ensemble Dialogos under the direction of Katarina Livljanic , with whom he has performed at numerous international festivals. He also wrote compositions for theater and film; he wrote the score for Auf der Couch (2001, director: Arne Feldhusen ). He also worked as a producer of music projects in cooperation with the WDR . From 2003 to 2011 Rodenkirchen was artistic director of the concert series "Schnütgen Concerts - Music of the Middle Ages" at the Wallraf-Richartz Museum in Cologne, where he founded the project ensemble Candens Lilium , which dealt with medieval music from the Rhineland. He held workshops on medieval instrumental improvisation at the Mozarteum Salzburg, at festivals in Vancouver and Ambronay as well as at the Cologne University of Music and the Conservatories in Lyon and Liège.
In 2012 he presented the album Hameln Anno 1284 / Medieval flute music on the trail of the Pied Piper (Christophorus). Rodenkirchen has worked in the Cologne improvisation scene since the 2000s with Albrecht Maurer (album Hidden Fresco , 2005), Scott Fields and the Multiple Joyce Orchestra ( Moersbow / OZZO , 2009). Rodenkirchen recorded the duo album Loplop's Call with Albrecht Maurer in 2013 . Rodenkirchen and Harald Kimmig wrote the Aura Christinae in memory of Christina von Stommeln , which has been performed repeatedly in Stommeln since 2004 (with Maria Jonas, Géraldine Keller and Albrecht Maurer, among others ). With Robbie Lee and James Ilgenfritz he released the album Opalescence in 2018 .
