Çiğdem Akyol (2018)

Çiğdem Akyol (born October 1978 in Herne ) is a German journalist and author .

Life

Akyol's parents came to Herne as migrant workers from Turkey to the Ruhr area in 1973 . Akyol grew up in Herne and attended the Haranni high school there . In 1998 she graduated from high school and then studied international law and Eastern European history at the University of Cologne . She then attended the Berlin School of Journalism and then worked as a journalist at taz from 2006 to 2014 , for which she often reported from abroad. In 2014 she accepted a temporary position at the DPA in Istanbul . After graduation, she stayed in Istanbul and has worked there as a freelance journalist and author ever since.
