Bernd "Pinguin" Moschner (born February 22, 1956 in Paderborn ) is a German tuba player and euphonium player of creative jazz .

Live and act

Moschner first played in Bielefeld as a bass player in jazz groups. From 1977 to 1984 he studied at the Cologne University of Music . As early as 1978 he gave solo concerts on the tuba. He soon played with Anthony Braxton , Ray Anderson , Peter Kowald , George Lewis , Paul Lovens , Evan Parker, and Kenny Wheeler . Between 1980 and 1986 he was a member of Hannes Zerbe's “Blechband” , but also played with Conny Bauer and Roscoe Mitchell . With Melvyn Poore , Larry Fishkind and Paul Rutherford he founded the "European Tuba Quartet" in 1981, which (with Carl Ludwig Hübsch ) still exists today. With Barre Phillips he maintained the group "Beef Connection" from 1986. He also played with Joe Sachse in a duo, which was also expanded to include Maggie Nicols , and in a duo with Joëlle Léandre . In “Tung Tid” he met the Swedish musicians Mats Gustafsson and Christian Munthe, in “Pliff” he met Alan Tomlinson and John Edwards . He continued to record with Wadada Leo Smith , Michael Sell , Paul Lytton , Jürgen Sturm , Manfred Hering and with the LUX Orchestra and is a member of the Ensemble Creativ around Bernd Born.
