Ingrid Sertso

Ingrid Sertso (born February 26, 1944 in Munich ) is a German jazz singer living in Woodstock NY, USA .

Live and act

In the 1960s she led her own trio in Paris; she has performed with Eric Dolphy , Don Cherry , Steve Lacy , Leo Wright and her future husband Karl Berger . In 1972 she moved to the United States, where she gigged with Ornette Coleman and sang with Don Cherry, Ed Blackwell , Lee Konitz , Sam Rivers , Jimmy Giuffre , Bob Moses , Dave Holland , Perry Robinson and Jumma Santos . In 1975 and 1976 she taught at the Naropa Institute in Boulder (Colorado) , then at the Banff Center of Fine Arts in Calgary (Canada), and then headed the Creative Music Studio in Woodstock (New York) with Karl Berger .

Over the next few years she toured Europe with the Woodstock Workshop Orchestra , performed with the Music Universe Orchestra at the Kool Jazz Festival and worked with musicians such as Steve Gorn , Dan Brubeck and Mike Richmond . In 1984 she gave concerts with Babatunde Olatunji and Aïyb Dieng in West Africa. In 1990 she sang on Don Cherry's album Multi Kulti ("Until the Rain Comes"). She also worked with Pauline Oliveros ( DreamHorseSpiel ), Frank Luther , Anthony Cox , Leroy Jenkins , Linda Montano and Conjoint . She continues to perform regularly in Europe and the American East Coast, and gives workshops in Woodstock, where she also runs a recording studio.
