Paul Shigihara (* 1955 in Tokyo ) is a from Japan derived guitarist .

Life

Shigihara grew up in the Rhineland. He studied the renaissance lute and classical guitar and after completing his studies he played with the Ensemble Sequentia before establishing himself as a studio musician in the Cologne music scene in the late 1970s.

From 1980 to 1982 Paul Shigihara belonged to Alexander Sputh (guitar), Willy Ketzer (drums), Ismail Tarlan (drums), Ira Coleman (bass), Fehiman Uḡurdemir ( guitar ), Meftun Yeşilbaş (drums), Mesuth, among others K. (drums) and Ralf Mähnhöfer (bass, keyb., Voc., Drums, musical cond .) To the musician pool of the backing band "Anatology" of the Turkish protest singer and songwriter Cem Karaca .

After studying for a year at Berklee College of Music , he worked with Charlie Mariano for the first time in Cologne . He performed with Dave Liebman and took tours with Sam Rivers . For a short time he worked as a lecturer for jazz guitar at the Cologne Music Academy . In 1985 he worked for the first time with the WDR Big Band Cologne , with whom he repeatedly appeared before becoming their solo guitarist in 1999. As a sideman he recorded with Jim McNeely , Klaus Doldinger , Ingrid Sertso , Carola Gray , Andreas Lonardoni , Lalo Schifrin , Patti Austin , Paquito D'Rivera , Jon Lord , Randy and Michael Brecker , Götz Alsmann , Maceo Parker , Joe Lovano and others . In 1984 his album Tears of Sound was released (with Charlie Mariano, Tim Wells and Michael Küttner ).
