Michael Küttner

Michael Robert Kuttner (* 26. August 1954 in Kiel ) is a German jazz - drummer and - percussionist .

Live and act

As a child, Küttner had classical piano lessons and began to play the drums autodidactically in 1970. From 1974 to 1979 he studied classical and new music at the Cologne University of Music , then jazz at the Berklee College of Music in Boston and finally African music with Mustapha Tettey Addy in Accra .

At first he played in Axel Petry's trio . Until 1980 he belonged to the JugendJazzOrchester NRW , the Trio Sadba (with Friedrich Kullmann and Jochen Schmidt ), the Quintet Key (with Markus Stockhausen and Hugo Read ). He became known with the Michael Sagmeister Trio , to which he has been a member since 1980, and Peter Giger's Family of Percussion , with whom he worked from 1982 to 1992.

Since 1987, Küttner has been teaching jazz drums at the Cologne University of Music, and since 2000 he has been professor for jazz drums, rhythm and rhythm theory at the Mannheim University of Music and Performing Arts .
