Axel Petry

Axel Petry (* around 1950) is a German modern creative musician ( saxophone , clarinet , flute , keyboard , composition).

Petry attended the art academy in Düsseldorf from 1970 ; he was at that time the unit of Bernd Koppen . From 1973 he studied clarinet at the Robert Schumann Institute in Düsseldorf (with Hermut Giesser, among others) and saxophone with Wilton Gaynair . During this time he founded the rock jazz formation Synthesis with Klaus Röder; He also worked in bands from Frank Köllges and other ensembles of different styles. In 1976 he moved to Cologne, where he has been working as a private teacher for music education and instrumental training ever since. He performed with Gunter Hampel , Perry Robinson , Albert Mangelsdorff , Michal Urbaniak , Theo Jörgensmann and Reiner Winterschladen . With his own groups (trio, quartet, quintet), to which Jürgen Dahmen belonged for a long time , he took part in the Moers Festival and other festivals; he also presented several albums. With the band he also appeared with Sam Rivers in 1983 . In 1984 Maria de Alvear and Christian Bollmann also belonged to the Music Recycling Art Ensemble . From 1986 increased focus on solo performance. In 1989 he took part in the film "Nachtgäste" by Erwin Michelberger , for which he also composed the music.

In the Cologne Workout quartet he worked with Gerd Dudek , Harald Eller and Guido Conen. With Hans Wißdorf and Dietrich Rauschtenberger he formed the trio Immaculate . He belongs to the Wundertüt quartet and is a member of the Wuppertal improvisation orchestra KlangDrang .
