Enrique Díaz

Enrique Díaz (* 20th century) is a Chilean jazz - bassist .

Díaz studied from 1973 to 1976 at the Conservatory of La Serena and until 1981 at the Universidad de Chile classical double bass. From 1976 to 1981 he was a member of the Orquesta Sinfónica de Chile . He also worked with several Chilean jazz bands such as La Hebra , EI Bosque , Ensamble , Mantram and Nexus11 .

In 1987 he moved to Cologne , where he teaches at the music college . He has performed at several jazz festivals such as the Leverkusen Jazz Festival, the Viersen International Festival and the Berlin Jazz Festival. He played with groups like Pasta , Tocando la Tierra , Sol Mestizo , Sin Tiempo and the Andy Lummp Trio . He toured Spain, Italy and the Netherlands and with the Michael Küttner Trio through Africa. He also worked in duos and trios with Barre Phillips , Michael Heupel , Markus Stockhausen as well as Mike Herting and Luis Borda . He has also performed with Miriam Makeba , Charlie Mariano , Philip Catherine , Chano Domínguez , Simon Stockhausen , Thomas Alkier , Nicky Marrero , Frank Köllges , Jim Black , Peter Kowald , Youssef Dhafer and the dancer James Saunders .

In the solo project Mapuche , Díaz appears as a soloist or with one or two musicians as a guest and, in addition to the double bass, plays other instruments such as charango , zamponas , drums and guitar . The use of recorders and electronic instruments creates the impression of a band. In music, Diaz combines elements of Chilean music with modern European influences.

Diaz composed film music for the documentaries Oro blanco (2001) and Un viaje a través de la Patagonia . In cooperation with Markus Stockhausen, the CD "Tocando la Tierra" was released in 1992 and the CD "Sol Mestizo" in 1996 . Together with Charlie Mariano, Markus Stockhausen, Mike Herting and Michael Küttner he recorded the CD Sin Tiempo in 1997 .
