Dhafer Youssef
Dhafer Youssef ( Arabic ظافر يوسف), whose full name is Dhafer bin Youssef bin Tahar Maarref , (born November 19, 1967 in Téboulba ), is a Tunisian jazz musician .
Life
Dhafer trained himself as an oud player. In 1989 he emigrated to Austria , where he first lived as a dishwasher in Graz and later in Vienna . There he met the violinist Anton Burger , with whom he produced some theater music, and got in touch with the jazz scene. He first worked with musicians such as Carlo Rizzo , Nguyên Lê , Paolo Fresu and Iva Bittová , later also with Bill Laswell , Nils Petter Molvær , Bugge Wesseltoft , Eivind Aarset , Markus Stockhausen , Gilad Atzmon , Jack DeJohnette and Wolfgang Muthspiel , with whom he worked in 2007 submitted the duo album Glow . He has lived in Paris since 2002 .
