Frieder Gottwald (born December 21, 1964 in Marburg ) is a German tour and session bassist and composer.

Life

Gottwald received his first piano lessons at the age of five and learned classical guitar at the age of twelve. When I came of age, I became interested in bass.

Career

In 1989 Frieder Gottwald signed his first record deal with the German-American funk & soul band Escapade, which won the 1986 “German Rock Prize”. In 1990 he founded the band "Velvet Colors" together with the singer Carmen Whitehurst from Ohio (USA). 1990–1997 he was a permanent member of the Düsseldorf rock band "Queen of Spades".

In 1999 Gottwald became a permanent member of the band Die Orthopedic Stockings by Guildo Horn (until 2001). He also played in the pop group Alcazar . He has also accompanied stars like Haddaway , Rachel Morrison (Rolling Stone UK "Voice of the Year '95), Irish folk pop singer Geraldine Mac Gowan, New York blues musician Chris Jones and German rocker Jocco Abendroth on tours.

Frieder Gottwald founded the ten-member 70's disco show band "The Golden Spaceriders - Interplanetary 70's Disco Show". With this group he appeared at events in Dubai, Spain and Estonia, among others, and released two records. The band existed for 17 years and broke up in 2012.

Between 1997 and 1999 Gottwald could also be seen in a trio with jazz guitarist Michael Sagmeister on tours, at the Leverkusen Jazz Days and jazz festivals in Stuttgart and Frankfurt. He was also involved in Sagmeister's albums Here and Now and Canzoni e jazz (Acoustic Music). Today Gottwald lives in Frankfurt am Main .

Gottwald has been a permanent member of Laith Al-Deen's band since the beginning of 2002 . At the same time, he continues to work as a guest musician on many different productions.

In 2002 Gottwald founded the folk rock band "Lahntaler" together with Ole Rausch , Ralf Erkel, Tommy Fischer and Danny Müller.
