Steve Gorn

Steve Gorn (* in New York City ) is an American world and jazz musician ( soprano saxophone , flutes).

Gorn studied composition at Pennsylvania State University . Under the influence of musicians such as Bismillah Khan , Ravi Shankar and Ali Akbar Khan , his interest in Eastern music arose. In 1969 he went to Benares , where he met the sarangi master Gopal Misra and then became a student of the bansuri master Gour Goswami in Calcutta .

After his return to the USA he worked as a bansur player with musicians such as Paul Simon , Richie Havens , Paul Winter , Jack DeJohnette and Glen Velez . He composed for film, television, dance and theater and toured around the world. In 1979 the album Asian Journal was released .

He then recorded several solo albums and worked as a flautist on recordings by Andreas Vollenweider , Jai Uttal , Laura Simms , Graham Parker , Priscilla Herdman and Najima . In 1995 he toured Europe and Africa with Jack DeJohnette. In 2006 he performed with Shades of Time . In 2007 he made a guest appearance in Germany with Karl Berger .
