Live and act
Uttal learned classical piano from the age of 7; later the banjo, guitar and harmonica were added. At the age of 17 he discovered Indian music , which touched him deeply. At the age of nineteen he moved to California to study sarod with Ali Akbar Khan . He later lived temporarily in India, where he became familiar with the practice of sankirtang . Later albums like Thunder Love (2009) are considered to be "a pan-cultural potpourri of sounds and genres from around the world, seamlessly integrated into a contemporary pop / rock format."
