Peter Apfelbaum

Peter Apfelbaum (born August 21, 1960 in Berkeley , California ) is an American pianist , tenor saxophonist , drummer and composer of modern creative jazz .

Live and act

Apfelbaum worked with Carla Bley between 1978 and 1982 and toured with Warren Smith and Karl Berger . He has been involved in many sessions as a sideman pianist and composed longer pieces for various musicians, for example for Don Cherry . In 1990 Apfelbaum toured with Cherry in the formation Multikulti , where he played piano and saxophone. Peter Apfelbaum headed the “Hieroglyphics Ensemble” in the 1990s . Stylistically his music moved between fusion and world music , but contains free elements. His 1991 album Signs of Life climbed to 14th place in the “top contemporary jazz albums” category in Billboard magazine. He continued to work with Josh Roseman ( Treats for the Nightwalker 2003), Jai Uttal , John Zorn , Gina Leishman's Kamikaze Ground Crew and also with Sex Mob .
